Tamara Renée Davidson (b.1989) is a Harlem-born, LA-based performance artist, printmaker, and composer. Tamara completed her BA with honors from New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study in 2011 and her MFA in Music Performance and Composition from The California Institute of the Arts in 2023. Her undergraduate studies were bolstered by a semester abroad at The University of Havana in Cuba with The Tisch School of the Arts Film program, where she studied Afro-Cuban music. In September of 2016, Tamara was commissioned by the Whitney Museum of American Art to co-lead and cultivate her first performance art piece entitled shake the stars with your song, which included jazz improvisation, electronic music, and textiles. In May 2017, Tamara independently released her first full-length LP, Conjur Woman, which she wrote and produced. The album masterfully blends the genres of R&B, Jazz, and Hip Hop. In 2017, Tamara attended a Master's level seminar-based bilingual independent study program entitled PEI at The Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art. In November 2019, Tamara completed a residency at Joan Barbara Printmaking Studio in Gracia, Spain, where she learned printmaking techniques such as etching and engraving. Tamara had her first solo installation, Bodies of Water, at the CalArts Wave Cave gallery in January 2023. The installation featured an original electronic sound score composed by Tamara and handmade textiles and linocut prints. In April 2023, she premiered her second installation, Your Face is A Garden, featuring handmade textiles and a one-channel video installation/ sound score for CalArts 50th-anniversary celebration. Tamara currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
